Alexis Fyodorovich Lvov

Alexis Fyodorovich Lvov was a Russian composer, violinist, and military officer whose music contributed to nineteenth century sacred and national song traditions. Born in Reval in the Russian Empire, he served as an officer in the Imperial Russian Army while also pursuing a distinguished career in music. Lvov was associated with the Russian Orthodox cultural environment and composed several sacred and patriotic works. He is best known for composing the music for the Russian imperial anthem God Save the Tsar in 1833. Although his reputation is primarily connected with national music, his compositions reflect the broader relationship between church music traditions and public culture in nineteenth century Russia. His work remains historically significant in Russian musical history.
