Amy Lee Grant

Amy Lee Grant is an American singer-songwriter and recording artist born in Augusta, Georgia, on November 25, 1960, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. Her family's worship life was rooted in the Church of Christ, where congregational singing formed part of her earliest musical experience. As a teenager she began writing songs and performing with guitar, and a demo recorded while she was working around a Nashville studio led to a recording contract before she finished high school.

Grant emerged as one of the defining artists of contemporary Christian music in the late 1970s and 1980s. Her albums Age to Age and Straight Ahead helped expand the audience for Christian pop, while later recordings such as Unguarded, Lead Me On, and Heart in Motion crossed strongly into mainstream pop. Her songwriting catalog includes Thy Word, Tennessee Christmas, Baby Baby, Every Heartbeat, and many other devotional and popular songs. She also collaborated repeatedly with Michael W. Smith and other Nashville writers and musicians.

Her work has received multiple Grammy and Dove Awards, and she was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2022 she became the first contemporary Christian music artist honored by the Kennedy Center. Across more than four decades, Grant's career has joined Christian songwriting, pop music, Christmas repertoire, touring, philanthropy, and collaborations across gospel, country, and mainstream music.
