Biography
Anonymous is used here as an editorial designation because the original Hindi Christian text of Victory Hymn has not been securely attributed to a named writer in the principal hymnological sources. The song is identified as originating in India, but neither a documented author nor a reliable date of composition has been established.
This designation should not be treated as the name of one historical person. It records an unresolved authorship rather than a recoverable biography. Later contributors to the hymn's transmission are better documented: Katherine Ferris Rohrbough prepared an English translation in 1958, Victor Sherring arranged the traditional Hindi melody in 1955, and I-to Loh supplied the Hindi phonetic transcription used in The United Methodist Hymnal in 1988. Those later roles do not establish the identity of the original Hindi writer.
