Arthur Campbell Ainger

Arthur Campbell Ainger was an English Anglican priest, educator, and hymn writer whose work contributed to late nineteenth century devotional hymnody. Born in London, he studied at Trinity College Cambridge and later served as a schoolmaster at Eton College before entering parish ministry. Ainger wrote several hymns reflecting themes of Christian hope, perseverance, and trust in God. His most widely known hymn God Is Working His Purpose Out expresses a vision of divine providence guiding history toward the fulfillment of God purposes. The hymn was published in 1894 and became widely used in mission services and general worship. Ainger writing reflects the Victorian interest in expressing Christian hope within a rapidly changing modern world.
