Biography

Audrey Mae Mieir, born Audrey Mae Wagner in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, was an American gospel songwriter, pianist, choir director, concert organizer, and ordained minister. After moving to California, she was influenced by the music and ministry surrounding Aimee Semple McPherson and studied at L.I.F.E. Bible College. She married Charles B. Mieir in 1936 and was ordained in the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in 1937. During the following years she served as an evangelistic pianist in radio and personal appearances and worked closely with musician-evangelist Phil Kerr.

Mieir helped organize the Monday Musicals in Pasadena beginning in 1945 and directed several gospel choirs, including the Harmony Chorus. In 1959 she established the Mieir Choir Clinics in Hollywood, and she also served as music director for Rex Humbard's Cathedral of Tomorrow television ministry. Her work extended beyond performance into mentoring, choir training, publishing, and charitable ministry; biographical accounts also credit her with helping establish orphanages in Korea and assisting Korean children who were adopted in the United States.

Her catalog includes "I'll Never Be Lonely," "All He Wants Is You," "To Be Used of God," and "When You Pray." Through these songs, choir ministries, and publishing relationships, Mieir became an important transitional figure between mid-century Pentecostal gospel music and the shorter congregational praise choruses that later became common in evangelical worship.
