Biography

August Ludwig Storm was a Swedish Lutheran pastor and hymn writer whose devotional poetry contributed to Scandinavian hymn traditions. Born in Sweden, he studied theology and served in Lutheran pastoral ministry. Storm wrote hymns and religious poems that reflected themes of trust in God and spiritual perseverance. His best known hymn is the Swedish text O Store Gud, which expresses awe at God's majesty in creation. The hymn later became widely known through translations and adaptations, eventually contributing to the English hymn How Great Thou Art. Scholars note that the hymn developed through several stages of translation and musical arrangement across different languages and traditions. Storm work remains an important part of Swedish Lutheran hymnody.
