Biography

Bob Kilpatrick (born October 25, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American singer-songwriter, worship leader, record producer, broadcaster, author, and ordained Assemblies of God minister. He grew up in a Southern Baptist family; his father was a pastor who later served as an Air Force chaplain, and Kilpatrick spent parts of his childhood in Japan and Turkey. The Dictionary of Hymnology dates his decisive Christian commitment to 1968. He entered full-time ministry while still a teenager and became part of the Jesus Movement and charismatic renewal that shaped much of his early musical life.

After marrying Cindy, Kilpatrick combined Christian ministry with folk-oriented music. The couple participated in evangelistic work in Britain and in a Youth With A Mission outreach connected with the 1972 Munich Olympics. He later served as a worship pastor at Bethel Church in Redding, California, before beginning an itinerant music ministry in 1976. His best-known congregational song, “In My Life, Lord, Be Glorified,” grew out of that period and became one representative work in a much larger catalog.

Kilpatrick’s career has also included extensive recording, producing, broadcasting, writing, and teaching. Cross Rhythms documented dozens of albums and his production work with artists including Randy Stonehill, Sara Groves, Phil Keaggy, and Noel Paul Stookey. His radio devotional Time Out with Bob Kilpatrick was syndicated for decades, and he wrote for Christian Musician magazine. His books include The Art of Being You. NAMM’s Music History Project also records his later work as a musical-product inventor. Across these varied roles, Kilpatrick has remained associated with contemporary Christian music, congregational worship, and ministry in the Assemblies of God tradition.
