Carl Maria Friedrich Ernst von Weber

Carl Maria Friedrich Ernst von Weber was a German composer, conductor, pianist, and critic, widely regarded as an important early Romantic composer. The hymn tune SEYMOUR is adapted from music associated with his 1826 opera Oberon. Though Weber did not write the melody originally as a congregational hymn tune, his music supplied the source from which SEYMOUR entered English-language hymnody.
