Charles Albert Tindley

Charles Albert Tindley wrote both the words and music of Beams of Heaven as I Go, commonly dated around 1906. His gospel melodies were designed for direct congregational use and often carried strong refrains that made the central message memorable. The tune associated with this hymn is commonly named SOME DAY, SOMEDAY, BEAMS OF HEAVEN, or simply identified by the first line in different hymnals. Tindley’s music helped shape the transition from nineteenth-century gospel song into later African American gospel traditions.
