Biography

Christopher Idle is an English Anglican minister, editor, and hymn writer whose work has contributed to contemporary Christian hymnody. Born in Bromley England, he studied theology and later served in parish ministry within the Church of England. Idle has written numerous hymn texts and devotional poems intended for modern congregational worship. His hymns often combine biblical themes with clear language suited to contemporary worship settings. In addition to writing hymns he has served as an editor of hymn collections and contributed to hymnological scholarship. His work reflects a continuing effort to connect historic Christian faith with modern congregational song. Several of his hymns appear in recent hymnals used by Anglican and other Protestant churches.
