Anonymous Irish author; traditionally attributed to Dallán Forgaill

The original Irish prayer Rop tú mo baile is anonymous in the surviving manuscript tradition, though it has often been traditionally attributed to the early Irish poet and saint Dallán Forgaill. Modern hymnological and linguistic studies treat that attribution cautiously, since the language of the text appears to reflect a later Early Middle Irish period rather than a firmly documented sixth-century composition. The prayer belongs to the world of early Irish Christian devotion and uses rich images of vision, wisdom, battle-shield, high kingship, and heavenly inheritance.
