Dorothy Ann Thrupp
1779 - 1847
Biography
Dorothy Ann Thrupp was an English writer of hymns and religious verse for children, often publishing anonymously, under initials, or under the pseudonym “Iota.” “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” is commonly attributed to her because it appeared anonymously in “Hymns for the Young,” a collection associated with her, though older hymnological sources note uncertainty and some evidence for Henry Francis Lyte. The hymn reflects the nineteenth-century tradition of children’s hymnody while remaining widely used by congregations of all ages.
