Edmond Louis Budry

Edmond Louis Budry was a Swiss Reformed pastor and hymn writer whose work contributed to French language Protestant hymnody. Born in Vevey Switzerland, he studied theology and served as a minister in the Reformed Church. Budry wrote hymns and devotional poetry for congregational worship and church publications. His most widely known hymn text is A Toi la Gloire, a French Easter hymn celebrating the resurrection of Christ. The hymn was later translated into English as Thine Be the Glory and paired with music by George Frideric Handel adapted by other editors. Budry text became widely used in Protestant hymnals and remains a prominent Easter hymn in many Christian traditions.
