F. Virtine Morris
Biography
F. Virtine Morris is documented in connection with The Christian Guardian’s 1919 Christmas carol competition. After Joseph Simpson Cook’s text won the verse portion of the contest, Morris submitted a musical setting that received second prize and was published in the December 17, 1919 issue. Hymnological research describes the setting as a through-composed work for choir and vocal solo titled “The Manger Prince.”
The consulted sources do not establish reliable birth and death dates, denominational affiliation, or a broader biographical record for Morris. The 1919 setting nevertheless represents a verified musical contribution to the earliest history of Cook’s carol, even though it does not appear to have entered sustained hymnal use.
