Biography
Fred Kaan was a Dutch born Reformed minister and hymn writer whose texts became influential in modern Christian hymnody. Born in Haarlem Netherlands, he experienced the hardships of the Second World War which deeply shaped his commitment to peace and justice. After the war he moved to Britain where he studied theology and served in the Congregational and later United Reformed Church ministry. Kaan wrote numerous hymns that addressed themes of social responsibility, peace, and the transforming power of the gospel. His hymns often reflect a concern for justice and the mission of the church in the modern world. Many of his texts were included in contemporary hymnals across several denominations. Through his writing Kaan helped expand the themes addressed in modern congregational worship.
