Frederick Charles Maker

Frederick Charles Maker was an English organist, choirmaster, teacher, and composer from Bristol. He received early musical training as a chorister at Bristol Cathedral and spent much of his career as an organist in Methodist and Congregational churches, including a long tenure at Redland Park Congregational Church. Maker composed hymn tunes, anthems, and other sacred music. His tune ST CHRISTOPHER, first published in the 1881 Supplement to The Bristol Tune Book, was written for Beneath the Cross of Jesus and became the most common tune associated with Clephane’s text.
