Frederick Lucian Hosmer

Frederick Lucian Hosmer was an American Unitarian minister and hymn writer whose texts were widely used in liberal Protestant worship during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in Massachusetts, he studied theology at Harvard Divinity School and later served congregations in the United States. Hosmer wrote hymns that reflected themes of gratitude, reverence for creation, and ethical commitment. His hymn Forward Through the Ages expresses a vision of the church journey through history guided by faith and hope. While his theological perspective reflected the Unitarian tradition, many of his hymns were adopted by broader Protestant hymnals. Hosmer work demonstrates how hymn writing developed across diverse theological traditions in modern Christianity.
