George Frederick Handel

George Frederick Handel was a German born composer who became one of the most influential figures in English sacred music. Born in Halle Germany, he studied music in Italy before settling in London where he spent most of his career. Handel became widely known for his operas and oratorios which were performed throughout Britain. Although he did not write hymn texts, his sacred compositions had a profound influence on Christian worship and musical tradition.
