George James Elvey

George James Elvey was an English organist and composer associated with nineteenth century Anglican church music. Born in Canterbury England, he received early musical training and later served as organist of St George Chapel at Windsor Castle for many years. Elvey composed anthems, service music, and hymn tunes used in church worship. Among the melodies attributed to him is the tune Diademata, which later became widely associated with the hymn Crown Him with Many Crowns. His music reflected the ceremonial and choral traditions of the Church of England during the Victorian period. Through his compositions and leadership in church music, Elvey contributed significantly to Anglican hymn and choral traditions.
