Gertrude C. Suppe

Gertrude C. Suppe was an American translator, transcriber, cataloguer, and promoter of Spanish-language hymnody. She became especially known for her work collecting and documenting Hispanic church music and for helping English-speaking congregations encounter songs from Spanish-speaking Christian communities. Her 1987 English translation of Taulé’s Toda la Tierra, published as All Earth Is Waiting, helped bring the hymn into North American hymnals and ecumenical worship. Her work is an important contribution to the wider reception of Hispanic and Latin American congregational song.
