Hans Leo Hassler

Hans Leo Hassler was a German composer of the late Renaissance who wrote the melody later adapted as the Passion Chorale. Originally composed for a secular song, the tune was later associated with Paul Gerhardt's Passion hymn and became central to Lutheran worship music.
