James Weldon Johnson

James Weldon Johnson was an American writer educator diplomat and civil rights leader associated with the Harlem Renaissance. He served as an executive of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and used literature and music to advocate for justice and dignity. His poem Lift Every Voice and Sing became one of the most influential cultural and spiritual expressions in African American history.
