John Bakewell

John Bakewell was an English evangelical Anglican minister associated with the early Methodist revival led by John and Charles Wesley. He wrote several hymns reflecting the devotional spirituality of eighteenth century Methodism. His text Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus celebrates the exaltation of Christ and has been widely used in Christian worship.
