John of Damascus

John of Damascus was a Syrian Christian monk, theologian, and hymn writer of the early Eastern Church. He is known for defending the veneration of icons and for composing influential liturgical poetry for the Byzantine church. Many of his hymns celebrate the resurrection of Christ and remain central to Eastern Orthodox worship.
