Biography

Kate Stearns Page (1873–1963), also cataloged as Katherine S. Page, was a writer and piano teacher whose work included educational music materials and hymn texts. Library authority data preserve both forms of her name, while United Methodist hymnographic records identify her as the author of “We, Thy People, Praise Thee.”

Page worked in the world of early twentieth-century music education and publishing. Surviving catalogs connect her with instructional and children’s music, and her name appears in music publications associated with teaching and home use. The documentary record readily available online is much fuller for her publications than for her personal life, so claims about her denominational affiliation, education, or church appointments should not be supplied without stronger evidence.

Her best-documented hymn contribution is “We, Thy People, Praise Thee,” dated 1932 in hymnological sources. The text entered Methodist and other English-language hymnals and was later adapted into contemporary pronouns as “We, Your People, Praise You.”
