Keith Phillips

1941 - Present

Biography

Keith Phillips is an American church-music arranger born in 1941 whose work is documented primarily through hymnals and copyrighted Word Music settings rather than through extensive published biography. Hymnary records him repeatedly as an arranger of contemporary worship songs and traditional material in collections from the 1980s onward.

His documented arrangements include THY WORD by Michael W. Smith, GREEN for Melody Green's There Is a Redeemer, the refrain of James H. Fillmore's HANNAH, and a setting of the traditional spiritual Let Us Break Bread Together. The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration, published in 1986, preserves several of these arrangements and identifies their copyrights with Word Music or associated publishers.

Phillips's contribution is therefore best understood as practical hymnal arranging: adapting existing melodies and contemporary songs for congregational publication rather than claiming authorship of their underlying words or tunes. Because standard public hymnological sources preserve little reliable information about his education, denominational affiliation, or broader career, those details are left unstated.
