Lloyd Stone

Lloyd Stone was an American poet, musician, illustrator, and teacher. Born in California, he studied music at the University of Southern California and later went to Hawaii with a circus, settling there for much of his working life. He taught in Honolulu public schools and wrote poetry and books shaped by Hawaiian life. At twenty-two he wrote the two-stanza peace text first published in 1934 as A Song of Peace; Ira B. Wilson arranged it to the hymn-like theme from Sibelius's Finlandia for the Lorenz Publishing Company. This Is My Song became Stone's best-known work.
