Ludwig van Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer whose works became central to Western classical music and also influenced sacred music traditions. Born in Bonn, he later worked primarily in Vienna where he composed symphonies, chamber music, and vocal works. Beethoven wrote several sacred compositions including Mass in C major and the Missa Solemnis, which reflect the Roman Catholic liturgical tradition. Although not primarily a hymn writer, melodies from his compositions were later adapted for congregational hymn singing in some Christian hymnals. His music demonstrates the interaction between classical composition and church music. Beethoven influence on sacred music remains significant through his large choral and liturgical works.
