Matthew James Redman

Matthew James Redman is an English worship leader, songwriter, recording artist, and author born in Watford, England, in 1974. His early formation in worship took place in the Anglican evangelical setting of St Andrew's, Chorleywood, and the Soul Survivor movement, where he began leading worship while still young. Worship Together notes that he has served as a full-time worship leader since the age of twenty, with ministry that has included churches and worship gatherings in Britain, the United States, and many other countries.

Redman's catalogue includes The Heart of Worship, Blessed Be Your Name, Better Is One Day, and co-writes such as Our God. He has also written books on worship, including The Unquenchable Worshipper, Facedown, and Mirror Ball. In 2008 he moved with his family to Atlanta to help with the launch of Passion City Church, later returning to England; his continuing association with Passion helped shape the live setting in which the album 10,000 Reasons was recorded.

For 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord), Redman co-wrote both words and music with Jonas Myrin. Redman has explained that Myrin brought an initial chorus melody and that Psalm 103 supplied the central biblical direction. The song later earned Redman two Grammy Awards in 2013, including the songwriting award he shared with Myrin.
