Richard Chenevix Trench was an Irish born Anglican archbishop, scholar, and hymn writer associated with nineteenth century church life in Britain and Ireland. Born in Dublin, he studied at Trinity College Cambridge and later entered ministry in the Church of England. Trench became known for his theological writings, linguistic studies, and church leadership. He later served as Archbishop of Dublin. Trench wrote several hymn texts that were included in nineteenth century Anglican hymnals. One hymn associated with his writing is Lord What a Change Within Us One Short Hour. His contributions to hymnody were part of a wider involvement in Christian scholarship and pastoral ministry.
