Biography
Richard Mant was an English Anglican bishop, historian, and hymn writer who contributed to the development of nineteenth century church hymnody. Born in Southampton England, he studied at Oxford and later entered the ministry of the Church of England. Mant served in several ecclesiastical roles before becoming Bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland. Alongside his pastoral responsibilities he wrote theological works, historical studies, and hymn texts for congregational worship. His hymns often reflected themes related to the church year and biblical teaching. One of his best known hymns is For All Thy Saints O Lord which commemorates the faithful witness of believers throughout history. Mant contributions to hymn writing were widely included in Anglican hymnals and helped enrich worship within the church.
