Richard Massie

Richard Massie was an English scholar and translator known for introducing German Reformation hymns to English speaking congregations. Educated at Oxford, he developed a deep interest in Lutheran hymnody. Massie's translations helped bring the works of Martin Luther and other German hymn writers into nineteenth century Anglican hymnals. His translation of Christ Jesus Lay in Death's Strong Bands remains widely used.
