ROYAL OAK

Biography

ROYAL OAK is a traditional English melody often associated with All Things Bright and Beautiful in modern hymnals. The tune is commonly described as an English traditional air and is sometimes connected with the song The Twenty-Ninth of May. Martin Edward Fallas Shaw prepared an influential arrangement of ROYAL OAK for congregational use, helping to establish the tune's modern association with Cecil Frances Alexander's text. Other tunes, including William Henry Monk's ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL, have also been used with the hymn.
