Biography

Samuel Webbe the Younger was an English composer and church musician who continued the musical legacy of his father Samuel Webbe. Born in London, he was trained in music from an early age and became active as a composer and organist. Webbe composed sacred choral music for Roman Catholic worship including masses and devotional pieces. His works were performed in Catholic chapels and musical societies in England during the early nineteenth century. He also contributed to music publishing and editing. Through his compositions and teaching, Webbe helped sustain Catholic sacred music traditions in England during a period of gradual expansion of Catholic church life.
