SUOMI (Finnish Cavalry March)
Lutheran
Biography
SUOMI is a 17th‑century Finnish cavalry march, sometimes called the Finnish Cavalry March or Hakkapeliittain Marssi, originally associated with the Finnish cavalry in the Thirty Years' War. In hymnody, it is used as a strong, processional tune that conveys forward movement and solemn majesty, making it well‑suited to Palm Sunday processions that follow Christ from Olivet to Calvary. The tune is often paired with the hymn text "Lift High The Triumph Song Today" in many national hymnals, providing a martial yet worshipful character.
