Theodore Baker

Theodore Baker was an American music scholar, editor, and translator who contributed to the study and dissemination of sacred music and hymnody. Born in New York, he pursued advanced studies in musicology and later became known for his editorial work in hymn collections and musical reference publications. Baker had a deep interest in European church music and contributed to bringing international hymn texts and melodies to English speaking audiences. His editorial and scholarly work helped preserve and organize knowledge about hymn tunes and sacred music traditions. Baker is especially remembered for compiling Baker Dictionary of Musical Terms which became an important reference work for musicians and scholars.
