O Love of God, How Strong and True is written in long meter, 8.8.8.8, and has been paired with many hymn tunes in different hymnals. Common tune pairings include WAREHAM, OMBERSLEY, DE TAR, HEREFORD, BOW BRICKHILL, JERUSALEM, DUNEDIN, and others. Because no single tune is universally fixed to the text, the composer attribution should not be limited to Robert Schumann or CANONBURY. Some congregations may sing the hymn to a familiar long-meter tune selected by the hymnal or worship leader.
