William Paton Mackay

William Paton Mackay was a Scottish Presbyterian minister and hymn writer associated with nineteenth century evangelical hymnody. Born in Scotland, he initially studied medicine and practiced as a physician before entering Christian ministry. Mackay later served as a Presbyterian pastor and evangelist. He wrote several hymn texts that expressed themes of redemption and personal faith. His most widely known hymn is Revive Us Again, which celebrates spiritual renewal and praise to God. The hymn later appeared in revival hymn collections and Protestant hymnals. Mackay work reflects the revival emphasis on renewal and evangelistic preaching in nineteenth century Protestant worship.
