William Pennefather

William Pennefather was an Irish Anglican clergyman whose devotional writings and hymn texts contributed to nineteenth century evangelical worship. Born in County Tipperary Ireland, he studied at Trinity College Dublin before entering the ministry of the Church of Ireland. Pennefather served congregations in Ireland and England and became known for his interest in evangelism and spiritual renewal. He and his wife were involved in organizing religious gatherings that emphasized prayer, teaching, and congregational singing. Pennefather wrote several hymns and devotional poems reflecting themes of Christian consecration and trust in God. While his hymns are less widely known than those of some contemporaries, they appeared in several hymn collections of the period. His work illustrates the role of parish clergy in shaping devotional worship during the evangelical revival of the nineteenth century.
